Hello Lightning Tamers!
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you all – we’ve just made our first sale for Rare Gases at Taming Lightning! This is a big milestone for us, and I couldn’t be happier to have you all along for the ride.
But first, let me tell you a bit about the journey that led us here. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to teach at Pilchuck, a renowned glass art school with a deep-rooted reputation in the field of glass art. It was at Pilchuck that I first discovered the fascinating world of plasma light sculpture, and it’s been an incredible journey of learning and exploration ever since.
I want to take a moment to recognize our co-learner and the very first purchaser of Rare Gases, Jerry Jensen.
Jerry is a passionate glass artist who is creating a studio and residency dedicated to pursuing glass art, particularly in the realm of neon and plasma. It’s fantastic to see individuals like Jerry embracing this art form, and I’m grateful for his support.
Taming Lightning started in 2017, and with the support of the Pittsburgh Glass Center and various grants, I’ve been able to dive deep into the world of plasma light sculpture. The neon and plasma community, both on and off the podcast, has been instrumental in helping us navigate this vast field. I’m thankful for the mentors, friends, and institutions that have played a part in this journey.

In 2020, we joined forces with GEEX, and together, we turned the podcast into something even more valuable. We produced a FREE four-part video podcast about plasma, learned together about sponsorships, and even fundraised to upgrade our equipment. It’s been a remarkable journey of growth and learning.
Working as an independent contractor has had its challenges, especially in terms of financial stability, but the freedom to pursue my passion and the support of this amazing community has made it all worthwhile.
