Spring 2018: Hands-on Plasma Globe

Plasma Globe fill demo at @pittsburghglass , a teaser for beginner/newbie hand-on on plasma neon workshop I’m developing for Pittsburgh Glass Center for Spring 2018. Tentatively for March and May.

The workshop witll be for Pittsburgh Glass Center, specifically targeting those in the pittsburgh area. As menitoned above it’s geared towards those with little to no glass experience.

Description:
This is brief introduction to a process of neon that has been fading in and out of interest since the early 70’s. In two nights, you will make your own Plasma Globe, and unlike a neon sign you’ll be creating your own uniquely neon light that responds to your touch! In the first night, you will work in the Hot Shop to create your Globe, where you will be blowing, pushing, and pulling glass. The instructors will help you gather, add color, and shape the molten glass into an air tight vessel. On the second night, we’ll be in the Flame Shop, where you may chose to add colored florescent powders to your Plasma Globes for a more unique color variation, and then see your piece filled with neon and glow before your eyes.

Summer 2018

Spoiler! Wayne Strattman and Mundy Hepburns are scheduled to teach a five day summer intensive workshop on plasma neon August 6th through 10th. This class will be focused on flameworking techniques at the torch. More on that soon!
