The Jurors were very excited to hear about your blog and podcast, Taming Lightning and that you will be making original work that uses Plasma as an artistic medium, while researching and developing a space to explore this new medium over the next year.

Hello Internet!

On July 7th I found out that I was awarded the First Ron Desmett Memorial Award and Residency at Pittsburgh Glass Center!

I am still very surprised, and quite honored to accept the awarded residency. In some way I’m at a loss of words, even today, but something does come forth. That is the gratitude to and for Pittsburgh Glass Center and it’s community for their support. Something that can easily be taken for granted. I’m a more sure, if not simply reminded of their support, guidance, and watchful eye as I work and struggle in researching and developing my understanding of Plasma Art, all the while learning about the artist that I will become.

I will close with the same quote or declaration I used in my application:

In terms of Glass Art, it’s a bit Promethean that we stole many fires from the Swedish, Czech, and Italians, and unless I’m mistaken, it’s what the American studio glass movement was built on. Beyond the technical standpoint, or should I say before, is the idea, a bolt or flash of lightning. I’m here to steal bolts of Zeus himself so that I can make my own fires.
