Hello Lightning Tamers!
I listened to the most recent episode of the Neon Nonsense Podcast and figured add some additional show notes. Below I’ll have some basic notes and links to books, groups, and DVD mentioned in the podcast.

-Percy Echols II, Taming Lightning

In our first episode we mentioned that sometimes we find neon mentors in strange places, “Strange Mentors” if you will. So on today’s episode we invite you into our libraries – allow us to share some of the sources that help us on our neon journey.

P. 89 – Helpful Hints for Making Patterns

  1. Begin with simple block letters then advance to script and fancier letter styles or designs
  2. Use an erasable pencil or inexpensive paper  found at a sign or art supply stores. Butcher paper is sometimes used to make patterns.
  3. Use a compass to draw circles . A large, inexpensive compass can be purchased at art supply stores.
  4. Use french curves to aid drawing irregular curves. Draw freehand curves from the inside. This is more natural than drawing from outside the curve.
  5. Use a light table to reverse and image. The light shines through the paper pattern making it easy to transfer the image to bending pattern material or to the paper backside. Or, simply trace over the design with a maerk so the ink soaks through the paper to the backside. Large sheets of carbon paper also are used to reverse the pattern but are messy.
