UPDATE #1
I’ve started a new project where I take a antique Energex high frequency device used in quack medicine, and turn it into a leak checker with style, ie. retro ray gun design.
A gift from Chris Clarke, Director of Operations at the Pittsburgh Glass Center |
Here’s an example of using a more modern device, oudin coil. Same thing used in more expensive devices specific to leak checking that could cost you from $99-$200.
My friend Harold Lasswell was able to make a leak checker for under $40.

UPDATE #2
Here’s a second update on Ray Gun “leak detector” project! I finished designing the handle that will be secured on the original Energex device.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to finish the rest of this project without financial support. To complete this project I’ll need a few more items, in addition to continued 3D printed designs. |
I would encourage you to donate if possible on my Ko-Fi page if you would like to help me finish the project. A single coffee of $3 would be more than enough from each every one of you. I’ll post a goal amount so you’ll know what your donation supports.
âBenefits of your donations include:
- Recognition on the Page of Patrons
- Additional Thanks with personal message, and credit for specific support projects.
