Plasma Cherry – Ed Kirshner & Mitch LaPlante www.aurorasculpture.com
A short clip from my Livestream on Facebook, where Gavin Tiernan of NP Signs chimmed on the discussion about external electrodes in plasma globes and talk about the missing ingredient; the conductive carbon coating known as Aquadag.

Put simply all plasma globes are without an electrode. They are made with a small cavity in which a carbon coating is applied to the cavity, and steel wool is stuffed inside with wire leading to the plasma driver.

Carbon Paint, Conductive

Semicro’s Carbon Paint Is Aquadag E -The Gold Standard in the Electronics Industry! Our Water-Based Graphite Paint Is a Versatile Conductive or Resistive Coating, and Impregnant Some Typical Applications Electrostatic Screening Electrode finishes on glass envelopes Coating of electron gun components Printed circuits – manufacture and repair Contact material in capacitors, resistors, and other electronic components Prevention of corona discharge at air gaps under high voltage Dry lubrication of moving parts in electronic assemblies Static bleed in computers, office equipment, etc.

PLASMA ART ALLIANCE – We explore the fourth state of matter

The mission of the Plasma Art Alliance (PAA) is to promote illuminated plasma in glass as a sculptural art medium; foster public awareness of this art form through exhibitions, conferences and educational outreach; and support the exchange of information related to techniques and technologies essential to the advancement of the field.
