I’m thrilled to announce that the Glass Art Society (GAS) is now calling for proposals for the 2025 Glass Art Society Conference, which will be held in Arlington and Fort Worth, Texas. The theme for this exciting event is “Trailblazing New Traditions.” We are particularly eager to see innovative and inspiring proposals from neon and plasma artists who are pushing the boundaries of our craft.
As many of you know, I recently returned from running the GAS Conference in Berlin, and let me tell you, it was an incredible experience. Despite the whirlwind of activity and the steep learning curve as a first-year board member, it was immensely rewarding to see both presenters and attendees—many of whom were first-timers—enjoying and learning from the event.
I owe a huge thank you to Thomas Wender (neonardo.net), Harriet Collins (harrietcollins.com), and Miriam Welz for their invaluable support in providing equipment, tools, and tubing for the Neon Demo I oversaw in Berlin. Their contributions were essential to the success of Victoria Ahmadizadeh Melendez’s (victoria-am.com) Neon Demo, and I am grateful for their generosity and support.
The Glass Art Society has long been a pillar of support for the glass community, and the growing interest in neon and plasma art is a testament to the dynamic and evolving nature of our field. This increased interest has spurred us to ensure that these art forms are well-represented at our conferences.
As we look forward to the 2025 conference, I, Percy Echols II, and Taming Lightning LLC are committed to making sure that you are informed about the opportunities to share your skills and knowledge. We want to ensure that you are supported and provided for in the best possible way.
We encourage you to submit your proposals and join us in Arlington and Fort Worth to showcase your trailblazing work and help us blaze new traditions in the world of glass art. Your creativity and expertise are what make our community vibrant and inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what you bring to the table.

May 14–Saturday, May 17, 2025
IMPORTANT DATES:
May 29– Call for Proposals Opens
June 20–Proposal Information Session (3pm PDT | 6pm EDT | 11pm BST | 7am JST [Thursday])
July 8–Proposal Information Session (7am PDT | 10am EDT | 3pm BST | 11pm JST)
July 14–Call for Proposals Closes at 11:59 pm PDT
Accepted proposals will be notified in late August/early September.
I ask for you to consider a proposal for demonstration, lectures, lecmos, panels, workshops, performances, exhibitions, and others that may think of!
