In other news, the votes are in! I’ll be preparing a Kiln Shop and Glass solder class at Urban Glass for summer 2024!
I find glass solder or kiln-fired enamel as a glass solder is an excellent tool for attaching electrode and creative vessel forms in addition to glass-making skills be it furnace-blown, fused, and or cast glass.
With flameworking the mastery of one’s blowing skill is congruent to one’s ability to make seals allowing for both complexity, scale, and attachment of electrodes.
Creating the conditions of making vacuum sealable forms does add challenge to the already trying process of manipulation of glass material. So when it comes to classes that require higher levels of manipulation and experience such as hot glass or flameworking, it is often a mindset and mental strength required to really enjoy the process of learning (including many failures).
The hardest part is getting a sense of how to build your vessel prior to attachment, and unfortunately, it requires work over time with purpose and discipline. if guidance is needed ask, but the only person who makes you make progress is yourself.
