Introducing the Neon X80 Plasma Transformer – Limited Stock of Original Information Unlimited Transformers
In the blog post Transforming Plasma Art: Neon21 SOLD OUT, NeonX80, and exploring alternatives! I brought some transparency to my acquisition of both Neon 21 and NeonX80.
“I want to maintain transparency with our community, so it’s important to note that this stock was provided by Wayne Strattman, a close friend of Bob’s, who managed to procure a batch of leftover stock drivers.”
Now, let me introduce you to another driver the Neon X80. This transformer is like the little brother to the Neon21, designed to run on a 12V input with a lower output of 5kV. While it’s suitable for smaller scale works and simpler gas mixtures, it may not have the power to drive larger, more complex pieces. However, with some experimentation, you might be pleasantly surprised by its capabilities.
⚠️A word of caution: the Neon X80 is not intended to be pushed with more power beyond its design specifications. Attempting to do so may cause it to heat up significantly and shorten its lifespan. Nonetheless, it’s a valuable addition to our inventory and opens up new possibilities for your plasma art projects.
Just like the Neon21, when this is gone, it’s GONE.
Technical Specifications:
- Input: 12 VDC, 1000 mA ( Do NOT exceed 12vdc input, the transformer will overheat)
- Output: 4kV open circuit at 10 mA short circuit.
- Compact Design: Open frame. 4-1/4″ x 1″ x 1-3/8″, providing a space-efficient solution. Requires proper grounding and insulation.
- Dimming Control: Includes 12″ input and output leads with dimming control, drawing 1.5 amps when operated at full output.
- Versatile Applications: Excellent for small plasma globes, gas-filled figurines, “luminglass” plates, and other small gas-filled objects.
