Saying Goodbye to Information Unlimited and Remembering Bob Iannini: A Shifting Landscape in the Plasma Art Community

In the world of plasma and neon art, there are certain names that have become synonymous with innovation, creativity, and the power to light up our imaginations. Among those names, Bob Iannini and his brainchild, Information Unlimited, held a special place. However, as we move forward into a new era, we must bid farewell to this pioneering venture and reflect on the legacy it leaves behind.

A Revolutionary Force in the Plasma Art World

Information Unlimited was more than just a company; it was a cornerstone of the plasma art community. For nearly half a century, Bob Iannini’s ingenious engineering talents fueled the creativity of countless artists. The power supplies and devices developed by Information Unlimited, such as the Neon21, PVM12, and PVM 400, became the lifeblood of our craft, igniting neon and plasma creations that dazzled and inspired.

Bob Iannini, often referred to as a modern Edison, had an innate ability to merge science with art. His inventions weren’t just tools; they were bridges connecting technology and imagination. From neon testers to induction heaters, his creations found their way into both studios and retail spaces, educating and captivating millions with their mesmerizing effects. His catalog, housed at www.Amazing1.com, stands as a testament to his visionary prowess.

A Heartfelt Farewell and a Missed Opportunity

Today the world of Plasma and Neon art lost an important pioneer, Bob Iannini, the owner of Information Unlimited and Scientific Systems.  Bob, an engineer and a modern Edison of an inventor developed a large catalog of high voltage devices many of which helped light artists for almost 50 years to power their creations.  Bob, passed away yesterday April 3, 2023, at age 84 from complications developed during a hospital stay.

Among his many other products, Bob developed many power supplies specifically for powering neon and plasma of all shapes and sizes.  He also made neon testers, induction heaters, animators and many more useful devices, many of which ended up in retail products.  His catalog at www.Amazing1.com shows his extensive creative talents developing science based effects that have educated and tantalized millions of people.

The Plasma Art Alliance was planning on honoring Bob and his life’s work that allowed our field to exist just as the pandemic started.  Unfortunately we’ve now missed our opportunity.

Personally, I worked closely with Bob for the past 40 years and deeply respected his talents as we built thousands of plasma installations worldwide.  It wasn’t always easy building reliable technology for this field but Bob always kept learning and making newer and better products.

I believe the current plan is for his company to continue on which will continue to allow artists to make use of the wide array of interesting products he created. I think that would be the best legacy he would have liked to have.”

Unfortunately, the world of plasma and neon art recently lost Bob Iannini. On April 3, 2023, at the age of 84, he left us after complications from a hospital stay. His passing marks the end of an era and a profound loss to our community. His legacy, however, lives on in the works he crafted and the lives he touched.

In a memorial statement, Wayne Strattman beautifully captured the essence of Bob Iannini’s contributions. Bob’s company, Information Unlimited, was poised to be honored by the Plasma Art Alliance just as the pandemic struck. The opportunity was missed, but his impact on our field will forever resonate.

Adapting to Change: Embracing the Future

As we navigate through this changing landscape, it’s important to remember that even as one chapter closes, another begins. The pandemic that swept the world from 2020 to 2023 disrupted our lives in myriad ways, and the effect rippled through our community. Many items once within reach became distant aspirations.

Still, there is hope. Even though Information Unlimited may no longer be available to us, there are those who continue to test and create the next generation of open-source power supplies. The spirit of innovation that Bob Iannini championed lives on, as we collectively strive to explore new possibilities and push the boundaries of plasma art.

In the aftermath of Information Unlimited’s closure, the plasma art community finds itself standing at a crossroads. With the loss of some beloved tools, we’re left with options such as Tech 22 – L7020, 5k midget, and navigating the shipping of the HVgen10acv3.1 from the High Voltage Shop. While change can be challenging, it’s also an opportunity for growth, adaptation, and innovation.

As we say goodbye to Information Unlimited and honor the memory of Bob Iannini, let us remember that our creativity and determination can overcome any obstacle. The light that once shone from his creations will continue to illuminate our path forward, guiding us as we explore new avenues, create new art, and keep the flame of plasma art burning bright.

Rest in Power, Bob Iannini. Your legacy lives on.⚡

  1. Kind of distressing that customers who relied on his products like the PVM400 are left high and dry. That is no legacy.

    • You may not like it but sometimes dreams and businesses are held up on one person. After Bob passed those who inherited the business saw reason to close it, regardless of those who use the product.
